Ashley Lewis has fronted her band, Ashton Gap, for many years with her dynamic and driving mandolin performances. A multi-talented musician, Ashley also plays guitar and fiddle, is a profound songwriter, and adds impassioned, haunting vocals with her clear, sweet sound. Ashton Gap possesses an energetic style and an innovative approach to all facets of bluegrass music, providing fresh definition to the traditional tunes. The combined effects of harmony and acoustic instruments blend to create incredible bluegrass music. Touring throughout the country, she has also performed on the WTTW/PBS program Arts Across Illinois.
Offering a wide variety of programs, her presentations include concerts by Ashley as a solo artist, as a duet, or with her full bluegrass band that includes mandolin, fiddle, banjo, guitar, and upright bass.
Informative programs, such as the Bluegrass Roots and Branches presentation, focus on the diverse ethnic background of bluegrass and the traditional as well as progressive styles that influence the present sound. Mandolin, fiddle, and songwriting workshops are also available. Another program, Music of the 1800's, is done in complete period costume. These programs incorporate the history of the music while entertaining and exposing audiences to bluegrass mandolin and this unique style of music.
