For over forty-eight years, the Chicago Children’s Choir has performed at the highest artistic level. These charismatic youngsters have performed with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Chicago Sinfonietta, Atlanta Symphony, and Ladysmith Black Mambazo. They have appeared at the White House and Carnegie Hall, and toured to Japan, Mexico, Russia, South Africa, Italy, the United Kingdom, and Austria where they sang with the Vienna Boys’ Choir. Touring groups include traditional treble ensembles, a youth choir including changed-voice young men, the Madrigal Singers, and the contemporary Show Choir.
Concert programs, based on a repertoire extending far beyond traditional works for children’s choruses, are appropriate for both adult and younger audiences. Works of Bach and Mozart share programs with contemporary compositions by Vaughan Williams and Bernstein. Concerts also include music, much of it involving movement, that reflects the multicultural, multiracial background of the singers. Spirituals, South African freedom songs, Mexican ballads, Israeli folk songs, and show tunes are all part of a diverse collection of works in seventeen languages. Concerts aimed at audience interests for special occasions can be arranged with advance notice. The range of the Choir's repertoire can be heard on their CD Open Up Your Heart
, which can be sampled at www.ccchoir.org
