Artist / Program Description
Child's Play is the premier professional theater for young audiences in the United States, dedicated exclusively to performing stories and poems written by children. Based in Chicago, Child's Play is one of the largest touring organizations in the state, having reached over four million people in thirty-six states. Child's Play is recognized as a leading arts-in-education resource, a position earned through the performance of unique material, a high artistic standard, and the integrated nature of educational programs.
Since its founding in 1978, Child's Play has developed and refined age-appropriate, sequential writing education programs, bilingual productions, violence prevention programs and international writing collaborations for young people. Child's Play programming includes New Voices, the most exciting program in which young writers enjoy the once-in-a-lifetime experience of seeing their words transformed into live theater. It is often kicked off with Writing Is Child's Play, a writing master class that teaches students where to get writing ideas and then how to organize those ideas once they have them.
Rep Shows include: The Christmas that Almost Wasn't; One Monster After Another; Kids for President; Animal Tales and Dinosaur Scales; and Do the Write Thing.
