Diane Ippel

Don Lyon
Artist / Program Description:
Diane Ippel - BS Ed., accomplished vocalist, and hammered dulcimer virtuoso - is a performer, teacher, and recording artist. She is a founder of Hammers and Noters Dulcimer Society of Illinois; Gebhard Woods Dulcimer Festival, a nationally recognized event ongoing since 1988; and Morris Old-Time Dance, ongoing since 1999.

Diane has learned traditional music and historical anecdotes from senior musicians in the USA and England over a twenty-plus year performing career. In order to preserve and continue this vital musical heritage, she is faithful to the original forms of the melodies while creating innovative arrangements and complex playing techniques. Illuminating historical and social stories related to the music and use of language is as important as the music itself.

A capella vocals, instrumentals, and hammered and plucked arrangements for voice showcase traditional melodies from the USA and abroad, contemporary songs, and originals. Autoharp is included. Content, pacing, and length of core musical programs are adjusted to match the needs of the audience. Audience members are invited to try the instrument and ask questions after the concert.
