Artist / Program Description

Sherri Farley’s love for the hammered dulcimer grew from an appreciation for the music of handcrafted mountain instruments. She was awarded an Illinois Arts Council Master-Apprentice grant to study the unique bluegrass style and obscure tuning method handed down through three family generations of renowned artist, Bill Robinson. An accomplished musician and performer, she has been called a “true artist” and her presentations reflect her enthusiasm for this distinctive art form.

Programs:
Dulcimer Tunes & Tales is an entertaining while informative narrative/musical program that features the hammered dulcimer, recalling its music and heritage. The program includes a variety of musical styles played on both hammered and mountain (Appalachian) dulcimers, historical anecdotes, demonstrations of how to play both instruments, and a hands-on opportunity for audience members to play them.

Musical Entertainment: May be presented solo or with acoustic guitar and bass accompaniment (additional instruments such as mandolin, banjo, or fiddle may be added). Well-suited for venues ranging from background music to concert performances.
