Artist / Program Description
Experience the power, passion, and vitality of Giordano Jazz Dance Chicago. With a dance style celebrating the exuberance and energy of American life, Giordano Jazz Dance Chicago has, for over forty years, brought worldwide audiences the excitement of jazz dance in all its variety. Under current Artistic Director Nan Giordano, the ten-member company has become known for a diverse repertoire, superb dancing, and cheering audiences. Additionally, when teaching master classes or talking with their audiences after a lecture/demonstration, the dancers connect and communicate. High-powered, dynamic dancing, a variety of styles, and a remarkably human approach are the trademarks of Giordano Jazz Dance Chicago.
A Giordano Jazz Dance Chicago concert includes at least five different choreographers, presenting a diverse and powerful program. Included in the repertoire is the newest work of former Alvin Ailey dancer Christopher Huggins, Washington-based Tony Powell, and New York’s Davis Robertson; the classic jazz dance stylings of Gus Giordano and Billy Siegenfeld; and the jazz/contemporary blend of Ron De Jesus, Randy Duncan, Mia Michaels, Nan Giordano, and Jon Lehrer. Educational programming includes the one-hour Jazz Dance Beat-Then and Now, popular with both school and family audiences. Residencies lasting from several days to a full-week include classes, educational performances, and full concerts.
