Artist / Program Description
The critically acclaimed Hedwig Dances creates theatrical dances that contemplate universal contemporary themes. Hedwig Dances works with an array of outstanding designers to blend projected images, sculptural artifacts, and original music compositions with expressive, explosive movement. The diverse company of outstanding dancers performs frequently at noted Chicago venues, including its home at the landmark Chicago Cultural Center and nationally at colleges and universities. Hedwig Dances’ repertoire features outstanding Illinois dancemakers including Artistic Director Jan Bartoszek, Jan Erkert, Maray Gutierrez, Sheldon B. Smith, Charlie Vernon, and Renée Wadleigh. The dances have been described as “fluid, elegantly arranged modern dance works…recognizable for their organic grace and unaffected virtuosity” (Time Out Chicago). The company is available for performances or residencies. Residencies can last from several days to a week and include activities ranging from classes and educational shows to fully produced concerts and curtain talks. Artistic Director Jan Bartoszek and her company are available to discuss the dances, as well as teach audiences about trends in the field of contemporary dance.
