Artist / Program Description
The Illinois Symphony Orchestra is a unique organization formed by the consolidation of the Bloomington-Normal Symphony Society and the Springfield Symphony Orchestra Association in 1993. A fully professional ensemble, the orchestra serves central and downstate Illinois with innovative programming. The conductor/music director, Karen Lynne Deal, leads the orchestra with an enthusiastic, polished style. Maestra Deal is committed to making concert music accessible to new audiences through a wide variety of repertoires and concert formats. Under her leadership, the Illinois Symphony Orchestra presents concerts that are educational, entertaining, and artistically excellent.
The Illinois Symphony Orchestra offers three types of concerts. The Masterworks Concerts present major works for the full-orchestra by composers from all eras. The Illinois Chamber Orchestra Concerts include both classical and contemporary selections composed for small ensembles. The Pops Concerts offer light symphonic music to celebrate holidays such as Christmas, Chanukah, and Valentine's Day. Programs will be tailored to the repertoire of the Illinois Symphony Orchestra that is prepared to the needs of the presenting organization.
