Artist / Program Description
The Kevin Lucas Orchestra is a cutting-edge group that pushes the envelope of modern music with classical, rock, jazz, and world beat influences with the help of Kevin Lucas' five-octave marimba. Their high-energy show is a dynamic presentation of sight and sound. Their music is extremely innovative and the instrumentation includes marimba, saxophones and flute, drums and percussion, guitar, and bass. They have opened for legendary bass player Victor Wooten and five-time Grammy winner Christopher Cross. The group has appeared on National Public Radio and the St. Louis Art Fair and recently landed two singles on two Future Hits compilation CDs from New Music Weekly in L.A. They have landed five critics' picks in the top Nashville entertainment journals. The St. Louis Art Fair described Kevin as "Beethoven with an attitude" and the Carbondaley Dispatch of Southern Illinois said "The Kevin Lucas Orchestra is worthy of Carnegie Hall."
Since the music is very eclectic, it appeals to virtually all age groups. Several options are offered for performance. These options include Kevin Lucas as a soloist with backing track CD; backing track trio with guitar, bass, and marimba; and, of course, the full-live ensemble.
