Founded in 1987 by award-winning and internationally renowned dancer and choreographer Khalidah Kali, Khalidah's North Afrikan Dance Experience is respected and enjoyed for its engaging interpretations of dance styles indigenous to North Africa. The company draws from the cultures and philosophies of various countries including Egypt, Morocco, and Tunisia to create a mesmerizing performance. Its mission: To entertain and educate audiences while preserving North African dance. Ms. Kali has traveled to over thirty countries, studying cultures of ancient societies with an emphasis in North Africa and India and bringing knowledge of their traditional dances to the beautiful works she creates for KNADE. In addition to her gift as a choreographer, Ms. Kali is a respected dance educator. She began teaching in 1986, and has offered her expertise to many organizations such as the Field Museum, Museum of Contemporary Art, Harold Washington Library, Navy Pier, University of Chicago's International House, African Festival of the Arts, and more. Characterized by fiery elegance and enchanting sensuality, KNADE provides audiences with compelling visual and aural encounters. Accompanied by authenic North African music and draped in colorful, traditional costumes, dancers escort audiences on a breathtaking journey through ancient and exotic lands.
