Artist / Program Description
Founded by three women (Jaquanda Villegas, Leida Garcia, and Jacinda Bullie), Kuumba Lynx began as an interdisciplinary performance ensemble. By 1998, the ensemble had grown into a multi-arts and education organization dedicated to presenting, preserving and promoting Hip Hop. The Kuumba Lynx Performance Ensemble (KLPE) has performed internationally in Havana, and nationally in Atlanta, NY, Oakland, San Francisco, Washington, D.C., New Mexico, and South Dakota.
KLPE is comprised of children as young as ten years old, and consists of members from throughout Chicago. The all-ages interdisciplinary performance ensemble produces original Edutainment. These artists combine their love of hip hop and dedication to social justice with urban narratives that explore culture, spirituality, social responsibility, and cross-cultural understandings. Performances by KLPE are available after school hours, holidays, and on weekends. Adult shows can be booked during daytime hours.
