Artist / Program Description
Mordine & Company Dance Theatre creates dynamic, challenging work that pushes the boundaries of dance, incorporating theatrical techniques and styles that broaden the spectrum of contemporary dance. Company dancers are some of the finest working in Chicago today, comprising what Hedy Weiss of the Chicago Sun-Times called “a sleek, attractive ensemble enlivened by a sense of individual style.” Since its inception in 1968, the company has performed at over fifty performing arts centers, colleges, and universities throughout the U.S. as well as internationally in Australia, Israel, Mexico, and Yugoslavia.
Mordine & Company Dance Theatre has an active and ever-evolving repertory of dance and theater works. Programs can be adapted to suit a particular audience and performances can include brief selections or evening-length works. Dances in the current repertoire include Short Stories (2000), Tracking the Heart (1999), Long Walking (1999), Desert Eye (1999), Animare (1998) and Voci, a performance cabaret featuring the collaboration of company dancers, two hip hop artists and an actor interacting with the work of Tom Waits and Laurence Ferlinghetti.
