Artist / Program Description:
The Portrait in Print exhibition offers thirty-three selected works which present a comprehensive view of printmaking as a fine art medium, including many excellent examples of intaglio, lithography, woodcut, and serigraphy. Initially, the works appear as a series of portraits; upon closer inspection, an outstanding history of visual artists, writers, composers, political activists, and others within the realm of the humanities emerges. Both the subjects represented and the styles of the artists are diverse. It is hoped that people will enjoy these prints as art, but also that viewers will be moved to learn more about the people they portray, and come to understand how they changed and enriched our lives.
