Artist / Program Description

The Field Museum is an educational institution concerned with the diversity and relationships in nature and among cultures. It provides collection-based research and learning for greater public understanding and appreciation of the world in which we live. Its collections, public learning programs, and research are inseparably linked to serve a diverse public of varied ages, backgrounds, and knowledge.

Terry Evans, a nationally recognized and exhibited photographer, has been documenting North American prairies for over twenty years. In From Prairie to Field, Evans has turned her lens to the birds, plants, fish, reptiles, mammals, and insects that comprise The Field Museum’s scientific collections. This work is part of her ongoing exploration and documentation of American prairies and their ecology, use, abandonment, and recovery. These exquisite photographs, beautifully printed using state-of-the-art Iris technology, demonstrate the variety of life present in prairie landscapes. Evan’s compelling large-format photographs invite visitors to explore the many textures of natural history collections in minute detail.
