Artist / Program Description
Reginald McLaughlin, better known as Reggio “The Hoofer,” has traveled all around the world, contributing to the preservation of authentic and traditional tap dancing. Narrating the history of tap through the sounds of his feet, his unique and extraordinary style of hoofing captivates audiences of all ages. Reggio’s program has been profiled on educational television, in newspapers, magazines, news highlights, and on Broadway. He has also appeared in a classic tap documentary called JUBA—Masters of Tap. Sharing over fifteen years of teaching, performing, and serving the community has made Reggio into a true tap icon.
Combining African foot-stomping and Irish step-dancing, Reggio’s expertise makes the history of tap come alive. His show consists of high-energy tap, “the old soft-shoe routine,” and audience participation in footloose and fancy-free hoofing. Reggio’s performance takes you on an exciting adventure to Vaudeville, the Harlem Renaissance, and Broadway musicals. His charismatic and unique demonstration of this American art form makes this program an educational and enjoyable experience. Also available: The Nut Tapper, a multicultural, percussive dance Christmas show, loosely-based on Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite, consisting of tap, flamenco, Mexican zapateado, and clog dancing.
