The Federal Employer Identification Number (FEIN) is assigned
to entities for tax filing and reporting purposes. It is a 9-digit number in
the format xx-xxxxxxx that is applied for using form SS-4.
Payments made by the State must be reported to the Internal
Revenue Services, using the FEIN to identify the recipient of the payment.
Grant applicants need to be certain that the name used on
the grant application is exactly the same as the name used
to apply for the FEIN.
