A grant for Illinois not-for-profit organizations that provide
well defined literacy programming.

QUICKSTART
A short term residency program that brings a professional
artist into Illinois schools for hands-on learning.

S.T.A.R.
A short term residency program that brings a professional
artist into Illinois not-for-profit organizations (excluding schools) for hands-on
learning.

applicant
The sponsoring organization responsible for the coordination
and implementation of the residency. The applicant must work with the artist
to develop the residency.

cash match
Funds that must be secured by the applicant to pay cash
expenses not covered by grant funds provided by the IAC.

capital expenditures
Funds spent to acquire or upgrade physical assets such as
building and physical equipment.

core group
A consistent, class-sized group of participants that meets
regularly with the residency artist.

evaluation
The process of noting observations of the residency program
in order to assess the effectiveness of the residency.

hands-on activities
Activities where participants are actively engaged with
assistance from the professional artists, i.e. workshops and master classes.

project supervisor
An individual at the applicant organization that will act
as the liaison between the artists and the organization. This individual will
oversee the residency activities.

residency
A project designed with a professional artist recognized
for his or her artistic achievement and quality of work. During the residency,
the artist works with participants as an artist teaching his or her particular
discipline.
